“Turning the Tide” at Hartford International University

Turning the Tide: Paintings for a Living Sea is an ongoing series of paintings that confronts plastic pollution in our oceans while affirming the possibility of regeneration and renewal.

This solo exhibition features six of my works and is presented in conjunction with the group exhibition Noah: A Future Hope at the same venue, which includes eight of my paintings. Turning the Tide is on view in the library, separately from the Noah exhibition..

April 12-May 15, 2026, Mon-Thur: 9 am - 5 pm; Fri: 9 am - 12:30 pm; Sat: 9 am - 1 pm

Through depictions of marine life, turtles, gulls and fish entangled in or navigating plastic debris, the works meditate on healing, hope, and our shared human responsibility as stewards of creation.

Rooted in Jewish ecological principles of Bal Tashchit (do not destroy or waste), Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), and the concept of Tikkun Ha’Yam (repairing the seas), the series transforms the ocean into a sacred, ever-cleansing ritual bath and living entity that invites ethical action.

Curated by Paul Chandler and CARAVAN Arts.
